# FastPeopleSearch

An online tool enabling users to look up people in the United States by name, phone number or street address.

## URL

<http://fastpeoplesearch.com/>

## Description

FastPeopleSearch is a free online tool that allows users to search for someone by name, address or phone number. The site says that it ["searches millions of records" ](https://www.fastpeoplesearch.com/)to find the requested contact information, which may include landline, cellphone, business or residential details. It also enables users to learn who previously lived at a given address, going back up to [four decades](https://www.fastpeoplesearch.com/).

To use the tool, users can begin their search in one of several ways:

* **Input the name and city** of the person you are searching for, which will pull up a list of potential matches, including current address, phone number and email address.
* **Input a phone number** to locate potential current and past owners of that number.
* **Input an address** to locate potential current and former residents.

Note that the free service is accessible by clicking on the "view free details" button under each associated entry. Clicking on other similar buttons may take users to external paid services.

The site also offers functionality enabling users to search for people "near me", but to use it, you must first allow FastPeopleSearch to access your location data (which we do not recommend to do).

## Cost

## Level of difficulty

<table><thead><tr><th data-type="rating" data-max="5"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>1</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Requirements

No specific requirements.

## Limitations

* **Accuracy:** The information found might be inaccurate or outdated, and thus could lead to dead ends when searching for a specific individual.
* **Geographic reach:** The site is geared towards a US user base, so might not be useful in global searches. The tool is not accessible from Europe without a VPN connected to a US server.

## Ethical Considerations

**Privacy:** The tool can expose private information such as names, home addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, which opens the door to potential misuse.

## Tool provider

The ownership of the site is not clear. The [Contact page](https://www.fastpeoplesearch.com/contact) indicates that it is associated with a Boston-based (U.S.) mailing address.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://bellingcat.gitbook.io/toolkit/more/all-tools/fastpeoplesearch.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
